Vanessa draws on her background as an educator in her photographic career. Always having an eye for detail, her ability to keenly observe things honed over years in the classroom has shaped her image making. Vanessa completed her Bachelor of Education at the University of New Brunswick. After years of teaching in public schools, she went back into the classroom and studied photography at the New Brunswick College of Craft and Design. After retiring, Vanessa’s long time interest in photography quickly transformed into a passion exploring landscape, Intentional Camera Movement (ICM), abstract, and street photography. Vanessa continues to educate herself by attending workshops and lectures. She has attended workshops with noted photographers Freeman Patterson, Stephanie Johnson, Roxanne Bouche Overture, Bill Ward, Sal Taylor Kidd, Susan Bloom and Erik Malm. In 2019 Vanessa held her first gallery exhibit, “The Other Side of Fredericton” followed by a second exhibit in 2022. She earned the prestigious title of Photographer of the Year 2023 from her photo club and has been published in the online gallery catalog of The Photo Gallery in Vermont USA. Vanessa’s lens captures not just images, but emotions, stories, and fleeting moments—an invitation for viewers to step into her world and experience life through her unique perspective.
